How We Keep the Work Clear and Accountable
The person who visits is the person who installs
Bryan handles the estimate, on-site measurement, material advice, ordering, installation, and debris removal. You are not handed from a showroom to an installer who has not seen the opening.
We measure before we order
Homeowner measurements can miss jamb depth, changes in the opening, and the details that decide whether a door will fit. We visit the property and measure the opening before ordering the unit.
We replace the exterior unit as a whole
For exterior doors, we specify a pre-hung unit with a new door, jamb, and trim. Bryan's professional judgment is that putting a new slab onto an old or deteriorated jamb is not the right way to replace a door. When deterioration is found around the opening, we address it as part of the replacement before the new unit is set.
The opening guides the material choice
Bryan selects exterior door material by the conditions at the opening, including sun, rain, and cover, rather than by a town's distance from the coast. In his experience, a protected wood door can work near the water, while an exposed opening may call for fiberglass, steel, or composite instead.
The finished job includes the old door leaving
We install new hardware, check the door's swing, latch, lock, and fit at completion, then remove the old door and installation debris. The homeowner is present for the final walkthrough before we leave.
How the Business Began
Built Around Doors, Not General Construction
35 years installing doors, the last 10 on the Monterey Peninsula.
Bryan Zane began in construction at fifteen, working on custom homes and learning trim carpentry. When custom-home work slowed, he decided to focus on doors. He began installing doors exclusively in September 1991.
That decision shaped the business we run today. Rather than treating doors as one item in a broader construction job, we stay focused on the work surrounding a door itself: the opening, the jamb, the threshold, the material, and the way the unit functions after installation.
Bryan began serving the Monterey Peninsula in September 2016.
