How It Works
How Our Door Replacement Process Works
Our door replacement process is simple. We start with an in-person visit to measure your opening and understand your needs. We then order the right pre-hung door, install it, remove the old door and debris, and walk you through the finished work.
One Specialist
One Person, Start to Finish
We handle both exterior and interior door replacements for homeowners on the Monterey Peninsula. The same person stays involved throughout the project, from measuring the opening to completing the installation.
Bryan Zane, owner, handles the visit, measurements, selection, ordering, installation, any work needed around the opening, and the final handover.
You know who is responsible at every stage. That matters when a jamb condition, swing, or hardware choice needs a decision before the order goes in.
Options Discussion
Deciding the Details Before We Order
During the options discussion, we work through material, swing, configuration, jamb condition, hardware, and any work the opening may need. We keep answering questions until the final details are settled.
We measure in person on the first visit. The opening, its size, and the existing frame all affect what can be ordered.
If you're considering wood doors or fiberglass doors, the setting around the opening is part of that decision.
Quote and Order
From Quote to Measured Order
We prepare the quotation the same day, usually in the evening after the visit. Once you approve the details and send the required deposit, we order the unit to the measurements taken at your home.
If you have already found a door you like online, you may be wondering if it will fit your opening. We check the measurements and make sure the door is right for your opening before we place the order.
We purchase and own the unit until it is installed. Stock units and special-order units move on different schedules. We will explain the difference for the unit you choose without guessing at a calendar.
What Is Included
What a Complete Replacement Covers
For a pre-hung installation, we replace the door and frame together, including the jamb and interior trim. We supply and install the hardware, match hinges and locksets for color and finish, and handle alarm contacts where they are part of the opening.
The existing door frame and trim can tell us whether the work is straightforward or whether the opening needs more attention. If we find deterioration there, we address it as part of the replacement rather than leave it for another trade.
This is also why a homeowner-bought unit can create trouble. The jamb depth and material choice may not match the opening.
Painting is not part of the engagement.
On the Day
Protection, Checks, and Cleanup
We lay floor protection before work begins. Removal and installation need a dry day, and a particularly heavy unit may require extra help for the lift.
At completion, we check the swing, latch, lock, and fit. Then we remove the old door and all installation debris.
You inspect the completed work with us before we leave. It is your home, and you should see the result while we are there.
Permits
When a Permit Applies
A straightforward replacement into an existing opening does not normally require a permit. Where an opening is enlarged or structural work is involved, we advise you on what your city requires.
Permit rules depend on the job and the local building authority.
Warranty
Your Warranty, Plainly
We provide a one-year warranty on our labor, plus the manufacturer's material warranty of 5–10 years depending on the door. The manufacturer issues the material warranty, and its terms depend on the unit selected.
Labor warranty
We provide a one-year warranty on our labor.
Material warranty
The manufacturer's material warranty runs 5–10 years depending on the door. The manufacturer issues it, and its terms depend on the unit selected.
What it does not cover
The labor warranty does not cover homeowner abuse or damage caused when another contractor removes the unit.
